The episode begins with Tony and his friends being captured by Fin Fang Foom and his Makluan warriors. They are brought to the Mandarin's palace, where the Mandarin reveals his true identity as Gene Khan, Tony's former friend and ally. Gene explains that he has been manipulating Tony and his friends all along to collect the ten Makluan rings, which are the keys to unlocking the ultimate power of the Makluan race. He also reveals that he has brainwashed Pepper Potts, who is now his loyal servant and wears the ninth ring.
Tony tries to reason with Gene, but Gene refuses to listen and activates the tenth ring, which summons a massive portal in the sky. Pepper struggles with her conflicted feelings, but ultimately decides to side with Tony and remove the ninth ring from her finger.
With Pepper's help, Tony manages to get close to Gene and challenge him to a one-on-one duel for the fate of the world. Tony uses his intellect and skills to outsmart and outfight Gene, who relies on the power of the rings. Tony eventually knocks off all of Gene's rings and defeats him. He then takes the ten rings and uses them to close the portal and banish the Makluan overlord back to his dimension. He also restores peace and order to the world by erasing the memories of everyone who witnessed the invasion.
The episode ends with Tony and his friends celebrating their victory at Stark Tower. Tony thanks Pepper for her help and apologizes for not telling her his secret sooner.
